The Gaslamp quarter runs from Harbor drive right in front of the convention center to Broadway between 4th and 6th streets. It consists of hotels, shops and restaurants. It gets especially crowded during the day when a major convention is at the convention center and also at night when people come down to eat and party at the various clubs and restaurants. The quarter is also bordered on the southern end by Petco Field where the Padres play.
If you are in town for a convention or want to be in the heart of downtown San Diego then the Gaslamp Quarter is the place to stay. It is conveniently located close to Balboa Park, The Convention Center, Coronado Island and Petco Field.
During the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 most restaurants are serving food outside which is nice to get out but be safe. Also 5th street is closed down Wednesday through Sunday from noon to midnight and restaurants expand their dining areas out into the street.
When to go
The quarter is open 24 hours a day. Shops tend to open around 9 am and Restaurants open for lunch. The area really starts to get going after dark as the clubs open up and people come down for the nightlife.

How to get there?
You can get to the Gaslamp Quarter by Light rail there is a Gaslamp stop that also serves the convention center. There is also public transportation throughout the quarter and pedal cabs roam the area at night. Parking can be an issue but there is public parking available, just be prepared to pay up to $10 an hour or $50 for the night.
