Kamigamo Shrine

This Shinto Shrine is located along the banks of the Kamo River in Kyoto. It hosts the Aoi Matsuri on May 15th of every year. The shrine is one of the oldest in Japan and is located in the northern part of Kyoto City.

The best time to go is during the Aoi Matsuri on May 15th.

How to get there?

Kamigamo is located in Northern Kyoto and you can get to it from the Demachi Yanagi Station and also via buses by the Kamigamo Shrine Bus Stop and the Kamigamo Misonoshashi Bist Stop.

Hours of Operation

The shrine is open 5:30 AM to 5 PM Daily.

Cost

The shrine is free to visit. However at 9:30 AM there is a tour during the daily purification ceremony for a 500 yen donation. Also the shrine sells Ema, Fortunes, and Caligraphy for a fee/donation.
