Big Texan RV Ranch

The Big Texan RV ranch is located just off I-40 in Amarillo TX. It is associated with the Big Texan Steakhouse and motel. The park is very nice with a lot of amenities you would expect from a private RV resort. For guests staying less then a week the park has pull through sites which are a little tight but about what you should expect from a private campground. All sites had 20/30 amp electricity, water, sewer, and cable. Some sites also have 50 amp service and you need to tell them when you reserve if you need 50 amp service.

The Big Texan is located just off Exit 74 in Amarillo TX. Access to the campground is via an access road that runs next to the Interstate. If coming from the west you will need to cross under the Interstate and get on the north access road.

The campground has cable TV, Wi-Fi, dog runs, an indoor pool and a nice store in the office.

Review

We used this campground as stop over on our way east so that we could work during the week. We stayed for 3 nights arriving on a Wednesday and leaving on a Saturday for Oklahoma City. We chose the campground for its price and location just off of I-40.

We arrived around 2PM on Saturday and checked in with the office. We were assigned our site given the Wi-Fi password and code for the showers/pool. We had the pet rules explained to us which was basically pick up after your pet, keep the leashed, and don’t setup any outside fencing. We were guided to our site by a staff member in a Golf cart which was nice. Setup was easy although we have a tree right next to our rig that we had to maneuver around a bit.

You can hear road noise from the Interstate I’m the park which is to be expected as close as it is to the Interstate. Inside our trailer we can barely hear any noise. The sites are tight for the pull through sites but this is normal for a private campground in the city. This is a very transient park and people are arriving and leaving each day.

Each site has a sewer hookup which is very nice.

Being affiliated with the Big Texan Steakhouse the park offers free limo service to the restaurant which runs on the hour and picks up from your site. We didn’t use the service as we were out and about and just stopped into the steakhouse on our own. You can also have meals delivered to your site if you want to eat in your rig.

The showers were clean and the pool looked clean although we didn’t use it during out stay. There are no fire rings so you can’t have a fire at your site.

If you are driving I40 across the country and want a good spot to stay off the beaten path for a few days to relax and recharge I would recommend the Big Texan RV Resort.
